Stephen Carey Memorial Cup

The Stephen Carey Memorial Cup is a new pre-season fixture for our friends in the North Northumberland League which has been ratified by the Northumberland Football Association and will take place on Friday 30th August.
The fixture will see the NNFL Champions face the winners of the Bilclough Cup at St James’ Park, Alnwick and will be contested only by teams who will play within the North Northumberland League for the forthcoming season. Therefore should a team that was either the league champions or winners of the Bilclough Cup no longer be registered then the runners up will take their place.
This season that means the fixture will be contested by Red Row Welfare who were runners-up to AFC Newbiggin in Division One, who are now, of course, members of Division Two of the Northern Alliance, and Shilbottle CW who beat Tweedmouth Rangers to secure the Bilclough Cup.
Kick off at St. James’ Park, Alnwick, will be at 6:30pm with the gates opening circa 5:30pm, prices on the gates will be £2 for adults and £1 for concessions with all proceed being split evenly between The Stephen Carey Fund and NFA Benevolent Fund.
Main sponsors for the match are Alnmouth Ex-Servicemen’s Club & Institute.

Blyth Town win further £100,000

They did it!
Blyth Town have been handed a huge boost with a further £100,000 super grant from the Budweiser Football Futures to go with the £50,000 they had already won from the regional heats.
The club not only united the town but the wider north-east football community to take almost 40% of an eight way Facebook vote against seven other clubs from around England.
The cash will be used to resurface the pitch with a 3G Multi-Use Games area, allowing it to be a community-wide facility for seven and nine-a-side mini soccer.
The Pin Point Recruitment Northern Alliance Premier Division side beat closest challengers Evergreen FC from Hertfordshire by around 9%.

Blyth Town £100,000 Facebook Bid

http://www.facebook.com/BudweiserUK?sk=app_100180143470548&app_data

Legendary centre-forward Alfie Cartwright used to race pigeons…but they always beat him, mind.
That’s not to say he wasn’t quick as hot snot across a pitch back in his youth, even if he did miss six months of one season with a broken flask.
The former pitman at Bates Colliery has been snapped up by Blyth Town, who beat off stiff competition from Newcastle United and Sunderland to capture the signature of the veteran goal getter.
Town boss Michael Connor was delighted to bring in straight-talking Cartwright and reckons his no-nonsense style could help the Northern Football Alliance Premier Division side net a £100,000 windfall.
Alfie is now the face of a hilarious campaign looking for your Facebook votes in the Budweiser/FA Club Futures Programme.
“In the days when they reckoned a Newcastle United official just had to go to the pit-head and call down for a centre forward, Alfie was always there, ten minutes after that first one out, with a fag in his gob,” said Town chairman Sandra Orr.
His record 40 goals in the 1968/69 season included three own goals in a game when he forget to change ends at half time and he was also a hero off the pitch when there was once a fire in the clubhouse and Cartwright came shouting at the firemen to save the Cups.
“Divn’t worry Alfie,” one shouted back, “We’ve saved the saucers n’ahl!”
And now he’s back to help out Town, who have already been boosted by £50,000 after winning the North East and Yorkshire regional competition. Their Facebook bid for the £100,000 goes live on 28th January 2013 and they need YOUR votes to clinch the vital cash.
“We have won £50K in a national competition to improve facilities for the youngsters and community of Blyth.  Due to this success, the Club is now automatically entered into a Facebook vote for a further £100K.  The Club with the most votes wins the £100K, it is as simple as that,” continued Sandra.
“We represent the North East and Yorkshire and are one of only 8 Clubs nationwide. We need your votes - lets have this money spent in the north east, for our children and our community!”
Don’t let Alfie Cartwright down, back the bid and boost the Town.

Sponsorship Opportunity

The biggest senior football League in Northumberland is seeking additional sponsors.
With 48 member clubs across three Divisions and also encompassing teams from Durham and Cumberland, the 123-year-old Northern Football Alliance is keen to find partners who’d like to support the local grassroots game.
“All sponsorship monies which the League receive are given to the member clubs in various forms, such as deductions from League and Cup fees, deductions from personal accident insurance premiums and so on, so you really can give a big helping hand to the game, clubs and players in the North-East and Cumbria,” said League Secretary Derek Booth.
The Northern Football Alliance is operated by four Directors of a holding company and a management committee of twenty, which includes eight club representatives.
“The league is a non profit organisation and Officers and Officials are voluntary and do not receive any remuneration. We hold a prestigious Sportsman’s Dinner in October each year at which a well-recognised ex-footballer is the main speaker. Ex-Wales international and current national assistant manger John Hartson was the speaker last year and we have got Paul Merson lined up to be the main speaker this year,” he continued.
“Any sponsors will feature prominently and I hope that people will consider supporting the Northern Football Alliance League.”
If anyone requires further information, they can contact Derek Booth via his email at defcderekb@hotmail.com or on his mobile number 07758666855.
